Bard the Dragon

People have asked me, on many occasions, "What kid shows does Jacob like to watch?"  My response, "He doesn't watch TV."  And at 18 months old, why should he?  He's too busy exploring his world to want to sit in front of a TV and watch silly televised programming or Disney movies for hours on end.  And, while mommy gets quite tired chasing him around, playing with him and keeping him out of trouble all day, she would rather that be the case than have her son entertained by the TV for several hours during the day.

With that being said, we occasionally do let Jacob watch some TV.  We have some Baby Einstein videos that my mom had and passed on to us.  They are about 25 minutes long and we refer to them as his "movies."  A few times a week we let him watch one of his movies.  He normally is not entertained by television, but for some reason the music, puppets, toys, colors, animals and sounds on these movies really hold his interest.  They are long enough that they keep him entertained while I get things done around the house, but short enough that I don't feel bad for letting the TV babysit my child every once in a while.

There is a dragon puppet that shows up in many of these movies named Bard.  In one of the movies Bard walks around the screen to some classical music by Mozart then faces the camera and goes, "BLAAAH!"  Jacob found this incredibly hilarious the first time he saw this scene and now eagerly anticipates it.  He says, "BAAH!" with Bard every time and asks us if he can watch one of his movies by pointing to the TV and saying, "BAAH!"

Last night Jacob was not feeling well and was up coughing and had a fever.  After changing his diaper and refilling his cup with water, we brought him out to the living room, turned down the lights and sat him on the couch.  He "asked" to watch a movie, so we turned on Baby Mozart.  It was cute to see him sitting there with his lamb and blanket in his lap, so happy that we were letting him watch his movie.  I was a little sad when it was over because it was fun snuggling with him on the couch for a bit.

Tonight he woke up again, crying, so Gabe went into his room to make sure he was okay.  I was feeding Levi in the living room, so Gabe let Jacob come out and say hi.  Within moments, he pointed to the TV and said, "BAAH!"  After one time of letting him get out of bed to watch his movie, the little stinker thinks this can become our regular nighttime routine!

I love my little guy.
